The small group atmosphere of our expedition allows for a personal and intimate tour. Snorkel in the crystal clear waters of Kealakekua Bay Marine Preserve, site of the Captain Cook monument. These highly maneuverable, military Zodiacs can get you close up to the many lava tubes, sea caves and blow holes of this rugged coastline. Keep a sharp eye, for you will see and encounter pods of Hawaiian spinner dolphins, sea turtles and (from December to April) humpback whales! Your captains/naturalists will tell stories of Hawaiian history and culture, island geology, and many marine species that you will encounter.

Kealakekua Bay is a marine preserve with hundreds of variets of fish and coral. its calm and clear waters offer 100+ feet visibility. It is also the sites of the Captain Cook Monument commemorating the first contact with Europeans. You will learn about the rich Hawaiian history of this area.
After snorkeling enjoy a box lunch and fresh fruit.
On the way back, visit some of the sea caves, view archways cut from the rugged lava and perhaps see a blowhole in action.

Exploring the Big Island’s Kona Coast on Captain Zodiac’s 24-foot “RIBs” is the experience of a lifetime! For 38 years, Captain Zodiac has introduced visitors to an array of natrure’s secret wonders that can only be experienced in a Zodiac Raft. The small group atmosphere of our expedition allows for a personal and intimate tour. Your captains/naturalists will tell stories of Hawaiian history and culture, island geology, and many marine species that you will encounter - and, for purposes of this trip, that will mainly be spinner dolphins.  If the conditions are right you'll get to meet them up close and personal, in the water!

Imagine your first sighting of a pod of Hawaiian spinner dolphins.  They swim effortlessly along in large groups called "pods."  Our Zodiac approaches cautiously and then, suddenly, there they are, amazingly close, right next to the raft.  Your Captain, careful not to disturb them, follows along as they circle their resting area.  You suit up in to mask and fins and then gently slip over the side.  Having been briefed on proper protocol, you gently float in the vicinity of the dolphin pod, hoping they will approach.  Then - it happens!  The pod moves closer and you see them gliding along beneath you.  You see a keiki (young baby) dolphin keeping close to its mother.  You hear the "clicks" of their sonar and it seems like they are looking right at you!  The Wild Dolphin Encounter is a unique experience.  Hawaii's spinner dolphins are a close knit family unit.  Pods of dolphins frequent the Kona coast waters taking time to rest during the day before their nocturnal feeding schedule.
